The fastest way to heal your eczema & my eczema story

As someone who has suffered from eczema my whole life, I know first-hand how daunting and frustrating this journey can be. After 27 years of using steroid-forward products to cope with my eczema, I realized I wasn’t seeing any improvement in my skin or body. Like many others, the conventional approach to treating eczema wasn’t working for me. I knew I had to find an alternate solution.

In 2010, having grown tired of the ineffectiveness I was experiencing with traditional approaches, I figured there must be an alternative way to heal my skin and decided to embark on a new journey. I packed my bags and moved to Toronto to start studying aromatherapy, holistic health and herbal medicine.

With this newfound perspective, I was determined to find a product that would heal my eczema. I quickly discovered that although I was learning a holistic perspective to skincare, there didn’t seem to be many products in the market that echoed this approach. I decided that if I couldn’t find a product that would help manage my eczema, then I would make one.

I formulated my first eczema product for Province Apothecary (my first company) the Healing Eczema Balm. This product was amazing and has helped 1000s of people with their skin, but in 2025 I decided to formulate a new and improved product for my new company, Super Natural Facials, and the Barrier Repair Cream was born. I LOVE this product and it is more effective than the PA balm.

It was important for me to develop a product that provided an alternative to traditional eczema products. Take comfort in knowing you will not find steroids or hydrocortisone in this product. This cream was made by someone with eczema for people with eczema.

I’m not immune to flare ups. I’m literally writing this with eczema cream on my finger with a bandaid on top of it to help occlude it. What I have learned is that my eczema is tied to my stress and diet. I have grown to become grateful for my eczema. It acts as my barometer and shows me when I haven’t been taking care of myself. l have found that when I listen to these physical cues, so many other things in life seem more manageable–sleep, happiness, fatigue, anxiety, stress.

The fastest way to heal your eczema:
I have discovered over the years that the fastest way to heal my eczema flare ups is by keeping the skin thoroughly moisturized and covered.

Covering the area is called occlusion. Occlusion is a, often short-term, therapeutic technique that involves applying products to the affected skin, then sealing it with a barrier like a bandage. This method dramatically enhances the absorption of treatments, hydrates dry skin, reduces itching, and acts as a barrier against scratching.

How to do this at home:
Step 1: Hydrate the affected area with a neutral/hypoallergenic lotion (I use my Gentle Lotion Cleanser & Body Lotion).

Step 2. Apply the Barrier Repair Cream on top of the lotion to the affected area.

Step 3. Apply a bandaid or DIY bandage* to the area and leave on for as long as possible. * I make DIY bandages with cotton gauze and kinesiology tape, you could also use medical tape.

Step 4. Repeat the above daily until the skin is fully healed.

If your eczema is on your hands: Apply the Gentle Lotion and the Barrier Repair Cream to your hands throughout the day. At night, apply both creams and put on cotton gloves or socks and keep the area covered.

If your eczema is on your face: Apply the Happy Skin Cream and the Barrier Repair Cream to the affected area a few times a day. At night, if it’s possible, apply both creams and then apply a bandaid to help the skin heal while you sleep.

If you have any any questions on how to bandage and heal your eczema please respond to this email.

And, if you know anyone that is suffering from eczema, please forward this on to them. :)
